The Turkish school
The host city
* Istanbul
Istanbul, located between the Black Sea and Marmara Sea and with the Bosphorus Staright cutting through its centre, has been the centre of many civilizations throughout the ages as a result of its geographical location. Istanbul, which formerly belonged to the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, is now the Turkish Republic’s most important city from a cultural and economic perspective. Istanbul is the only city in the world standing upon two continents, Asia and Europe, with the perfect blend of cultures and heritage from both sides. Istanbul is divided in three by the north-south Bosphorus Strait , the dividing line between Europe and Asia, the estuary of the Golden Horn bisecting the western part and the Sea of Marmara forming a boundary to the south. Most sights are concentrated in the old city on the peninsula of Sultanahmet, to the west of the Bosphorus between the Horn and the Sea. Across the Horn to the north are Galata, Beyoğlu and Taksim, the heart of modern Istanbul, while Kadıköy is the major district on the comparatively less-visited Anatolian side of the city. The Black Sea forms the northern boundary of Istanbul.
Dr. Kemal Naci Ekşi Anatolian High School
Dr. Kemal Naci Ekşi Anatolian High School was founded in 1988, by the support of the Mayor of Bakırköy, Naci Ekşi. Since then it has been trying to be one of the best high schools in the district. It is located in Bağcılar, which is in European side of Istanbul. Istanbul is a world centre of great importance in the past and present. It embraces Asia on the one hand and Europe on the other. In Istanbul from ancient Hellenistic sites to modern-day architectural feats there are many magnificent historical buildings such as Bosphorus bridges, Topkapı Palace, Suleymaniye Mosque, Maiden Tower, Galata Tower. Dr. Naci Eksi is a 4-year-state school. The students are accepted according to their scores on a national exam. In our school there are 883 students and 51 teachers. Our mission is to raise individuals who think freely and express their ideas explicitly. In our school, besides German, the students have to study English for four years. Within this period, the students are expected to use the language by speaking, writing and listening. It’s very important to make them into the language itself and use it. Throughout the school year, the students improve their language as well as sportive, mathematical and social competences. Our school hasn’t participated any EU projects before, but some of our teachers took part in Comenius projects. We want the students to have an international vision, so we want to carry out EU projects.
