The host city
* Katerini is a city and municipality in northern Greece, the capital city of province of Pieria in Central Macedonia, Greece. Pieria is the smallest regional unit within Macedonia. The name Pieria originates from the ancient Pieres tribe. In Pieria, there are many sites of archeological interest, such as Dion, Pydna, Leivithra and Platamon castle. Mt. Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and throne of the ancient Greekgods, is located in the southern part of Pieria. Katerini lies on the Pierian plain, between Mt. Olympus and the Thermaikos Gulf, at an altitude of 14 m. It has a population of 85,851 and it is the second most populous urban area at the Region of Macedonia after Thessaloniki. It is greatly an agricultural city but also a popular tourist destination, that attracts tourist both from Greeceand abroad. Within the boundaries of the municipality, there are over 230 hotels that can accommodate more that 8,600 people. The vast majority of the tourist infrastructure lie in Paralia and Olympiaki Akti and it also includes tensof tavernas and cafes. Paralia is the closest beach, a tourist seaside settlement and a former municipality in the eastern part of the Pieria regional unit, Greece. On Katerini center area the city municipal park is located and is classified as central recreational park of Katerini City. It contains both a garden of plants with trees covering the parkland, and a small zoo of deer, ducks, peacocks, and a variety of birds. It is popular for walking, jogging, outings, wedding and baptism photography spot. The landscape setting has ornamental rock hill, small lake, water founts with two bridges, pedestrian walkway, and an external concrete amphitheatre for events.

The 3rd Lyceum of Katerini is a senior secondary school in a town of about 70 thousands people, in north Greece, 70 kilometers south of Thessaloniki. It is surrounded by the famous Mt Olympus, the legendary dwelling of the Ancient Gods, Mt Pieria, and the west coast of the Thermaikos Gulf. It was founded in 1979 and the students are between 15-18 years old. There are 3 grades (A, B, C), with 4 classes in A , 3 classes in B and 3 in C . The total number of the students is 240 and the teachers 31. The school curriculum includes Religion, Ancient Greek and Modern Greek language & Literature, Latin, History, Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Mathematics and Statistics), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Foreign Languages (English, French and German), Physical Education, Business Management and Administration, Principles of Economic Theory, and other courses depending on the grade or the direction that the students select. They study for 5-7 years and have a good English level. Most of our school students are oriented to higher education institutions after graduating from school. Every year in June, third-grade students take entrance exams held at national-level to gain entry to tertiary education institutions. Our students study English for 5-7 years and many of them have good knowledge of English.
